Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between "Cellulite" and "Body Sculpting"
treatments? The difference is related to the depth of the tissues to
be treated. For cellulite, medications are introduced into the cell
layers right under the skin, between one and two millimeters deep.
For body sculpting (spot reduction), medications are administered
into deeper layers of tissues.
How are the treatments applied? Depending on the area to be
treated, the degree of progression of cellulite, etc., medications
are selected and introduced into the skin layers in very small
amounts, by specially designed, very thin needles that are
relatively painless.
What areas of the body can be treated? Mesotherapy treatments can
be applied to most any area of the body. It is requested mostly for
the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, face (under-eye bags,
jowls, double chin), and love handles.
How many treatments will I need? For cellulite as well as for
body sculpting Mesotherapy, the number of treatments needed to
obtain good results are form two to sic, depending on the degree of
cellulite and "spot reductions" or "sculpting" patients desire,
provided they are good candidates. Treatments may last from twenty
to forty-five minutes each, and are administered every two to four
weeks.
Do treatments hurt? Some patients may experience a mild pain
and/or itching sensation during treatments. This may last anywhere
from a few minutes to a few hours. Some patients may have a mild
nausea or headache.
How soon can I see results? Depending on several factors such as
diet and exercise, dosage and response to medications, results for
cellulite reduction may be apparent after receiving two to six
Mesotherapy treatments. For body sculpting, two to six Mesotherapy
treatments over a one to three-month period should visibly reduce
the thickness of fat deposits, in the majority of patients.
Are there any complications with Mesotherapy treatments? Small
bruises may appear on the treated areas, but as with any other
bruises, they fade away in a few days to a week. Other recorded
possible complications are infection, poor response to treatment,
temporary pain, and/or temporary bumps at the sites of injection.
More serious yet rare complications include infection and/or
allergic reaction to medication. Almost all serious complications
from Mesotherapy have occurred in either foreign countries or when
the procedure was performed by non-physicians.
How much does it cost? Much less expensive than liposuction,
Mesotherapy is $250 per body area per treatment. Dr. Ruggiero will
treat up to two body areas per treatment. He is available at our
clinics in Linwood, NJ and Colorado Springs, CO.
